Multifunctional cellulosic aerogels from Posidonia oceanica waste biomass with antioxidant properties for meat preservation

نویسندگان

چکیده

Posidonia oceanica waste biomass has been valorized to develop bioactive multifunctional cellulosic aerogels (HCAG) by simpler and greener protocols. Hydrophobization of was achieved through PLA coating, while bioactivity imparted the incorporation hydrophilic (E2) hydrophobic extracts (E3) produced from same biomass. The led denser aerogels, with less porous structures. These showed outstanding water oil sorption capacities (1500–1900%), being able release adsorbed liquid almost completely after 7 days. Interestingly, all a positive inhibition effect (23–91%) on β-carotene bleaching assay. Moreover, loaded extracts, especially when combining E2 E3, were reduce oxidation lipids oxymyoglobin in red meat 10 days storage. This evidences potential these as adsorbing pads preserve quality fresh packaged foods.

Removal of Vanadium(III) and Molybdenum(V) from Wastewater Using Posidonia oceanica (Tracheophyta) Biomass

The use of dried and re-hydrated biomass of the seagrass Posidonia oceanica was investigated as an alternative and -low-cost biomaterial for removal of vanadium(III) and molybdenum(V) from wastewaters. Initial characterisation of this biomaterial identified carboxylic groups on the cuticle as potentially responsible for cation sorption, and confirmed the toxic-metal bioaccumulation. The combine...

AxIOM: Amphipod crustaceans from insular Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows

BACKGROUND The Neptune grass, Posidonia oceanica (L.) Delile, 1813, is the most widespread seagrass of the Mediterranean Sea. This foundation species forms large meadows that, through habitat and trophic services, act as biodiversity hotspots. In Neptune grass meadows, amphipod crustaceans are one of the dominant groups of vagile invertebrates, forming an abundant and diverse taxocenosis. They ...

Pyrolytic sugars from cellulosic biomass.

Depolymerization of cellulose offers the prospect of inexpensive sugars from biomass. Breaking the glycosidic bonds of cellulose to liberate glucose has usually been pursued by acid or enzymatic hydrolysis although a purely thermal depolymerization route to sugars is also possible. Fast pyrolysis of pure cellulose yields primarily the anhydrosugar levoglucosan (LG) whereas the presence of natur...

Cellulase for commodity products from cellulosic biomass

A vital objective for second millennium biotechnology will be the enzymatic conversion of renewable cellulosic biomass to inexpensive fermentable sugars; new and more efficient fermentation processes will convert this biological 'currency' to a variety of commodity products. Although early strides will be made using process development and engineering disciplines, mid-term and longer advances m...

Nitrogen dynamics in Posidonia oceanica cuttings: implications for transplantation experiments.

A (15)N tracer study was performed during an experimental transplantation trial of natural Posidonia oceanica cuttings. The experiment was done in situ at 17 m depth in the Revellata Bay (Calvi, NW Corsica, France). Despite high survival rates of transplants (>90%) after one year, the weight and the N content of transplants are significantly lower than those of reference plants. In absence of r...
